The beginning...

Welcome to the world of the Maine Outing Club and the outdoors of the great North in general! Here you will be able to find anything and everything related to the goings on of the MOC as well as what's on the up and up outside of the safe confines of the daily grind (at least for the next two weeks). With spring making itself felt early this year, expect to find pieces related to the end of the snow season (late season storms, mayhap?), spring biking (bitter cold and warm sun), hiking, lounging in the sun, and just about anything else that involves fresh air and the breeze blowing through your hair.

As most people know, a key to success is starting strong and what better way to start a blog about the outdoors in Maine than with the announcement of the plans for the 21st Annual Bud Light Reggae Fest at Sugarloaf! For those of us out of the loop, Reggae Fest is quite possibly the biggest party scene at a mountain resort in the East, drawing snow enthusiasts from all over New England and further. A reveler at the festivities can expect good music, cheery people, lots to drink, and as always the best skiing on the east coast. Aside from the resort hosted parties, the local attitude of most anything goes extends the party all over the 1,400 acres of the resort and down into the Carrabassett Valley...you just have to know where to look! An important part of any good festival is the music and Sugarloaf has not disappointed this year; the roster this year includes The Cool & Deadly with John Lee, Yellow Fever & Punani Soundsystem, Product Toss with John Lee, Darryl Jenifer Blakvova, Big Takeover, and Westbound Train.

If you have a brain in your skull you will not miss this event!

Now stop staring at this screen and GO OUTSIDE!
